The Cape Hatteras lighthouse, in the Outer Banks

Residents on Paraklay Way at The Commons spent the day traveling the coast . Learning about one of the world’s most famous lighthouses.

The Cape Hatteras lighthouse, in the Outer Banks, is the tallest brick lighthouse in the country. It is known for its black and white candy cane stripes. Made with over one million bricks, its beacon can be seen for almost 20 miles in the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse was even moved in 1999 almost 2,900 feet to save it from beach erosion.

Our residents got a fact sheet with pictures and stories about the iconic lighthouse and then they painted and colored their own lighthouse canvas to hang in their rooms.
