“History is what shaped our future & our lives…”

March 12, 2018

The Men’s Group of Brightmore Senior Independent Living enjoyed an afternoon of blue skies, friendship, food and history! They traveled first to the Fort Fisher History Museum, where they viewed all the exhibits from the past when Fort Fisher was a Confederate fort during the American Civil War. Fort Fisher protected the vital trading routes of the port at Wilmington, North Carolina, from 1861, until its capture by the Union in 1865. The men then enjoyed a beautiful ferry ride over to Southport to have lunch at Fishy Fishy, located on the water at the boat basin. After lunch, the group stopped in to the Fort Johnston Museum. Fort Johnston was a British fort, later a United States Army post, in Brunswick County, North Carolina, on Moore Street near Southport, North Carolina. It stands on the west bank of the Cape Fear River, four miles above its mouth. This museum not only holds history dating back to the 1800’s, but also all of the movie and film history in all of the surrounding counties! It is a small museum that holds a wealth of information. It was a full day, but one the men of Brightmore really appreciated!
