Heart Healthy Smoothies!
February is designated as American Heart Month to promote cardiovascular health and raise awareness about heart disease. Here at The Commons of Brightmore, our residents enjoyed a hearth healthy smoothie. Chef Justin whipped up a strawberry & beet smoothie that was delicious and nutritious. Beets contain a high concentration of nitrates which can help lower your blood pressure levels. This may lead to a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke. We encourage you to give the recipe a try!
Strawberry Beet Smoothie:
- -1 cup chopped beets (cooked or raw)
- -1 cup frozen strawberries
- -2 cups apple juice
- -1 tablespoon honey
- -1/2 -1 inch fresh ginger
Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and puree until smooth.
