Brightmore of Wilmington Resident, Joe , turns 106!

Joe turns 106Joe Hull was born on June 24, 1916 to parents Mary and John in Smethport, Pennsylvania. He was the third child (first son) of the family. Fortunately , siblings joined him , three more sisters and two brothers. As a young man, he attended college and graduated from St. Bonaventure in 1939. A true and faithful alumni, actively supporting the University for the past 83 years.

In January 1940, Joe married Harriett Long. The two lovebirds have been married for 71 years. At this stage, the couple settled in Hilton, New York, and raised three children. While in Hilton, Joe was active in the Methodist Church, Volunteer Fire Department and Board of Education. Their vacations included places such as the Adirondack Mountains and a most memorable “station wagon” trip from Rochester to California and back in 1957.

After a career of over 30 years, he retired from Eastman Kodak in 1976 . Amazingly, the couple moved to Wilmington, NC in Pine Valley within days of Joe’s retirement. They soon belonged to the Pine Valley Country Club,as well as buying a golf cart! In addition, they were regular parishioners at Pine Valley United Methodist Church. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Panama Canal, Alaska and California. They also became avid Square Dancers!

In 2017, Joe made the decision to move to Brightmore. He has remained both physically and mentally active. He is a regular walker, Around the pond on the good weather days and a user of the cardio room on the less inviting days. Joe enjoys reading, keeping track of the latest news and being physically active. Watching “The Voice” is also one of his favorite shows. A true inspiration to the Brightmore community, his friends and neighbors!
Happy “106th” Birthday Joe!
