“Tech at the Beach” Helps Seniors Learn New Technology

August 8, 2017

Brightmore University was excited to offer “Tech at the Beach” presented by AARP Coastal Volunteer, Dennis Stokley.  New technology; iPhones, iPads and Android devices can be very challenging to seniors. The AARP Tek Academy (Technology, Education and Knowledge) offers presentations to help sharpen your technology skills so you can stay connected with friends, family and passions through better use of your cell phone, tablet, Facebook and other Social Networks.  Today they presented one of their many classes, “Smartphone 101”, which introduced the basic iPhone features and how to navigate through your phone and iPads. They began by asking the class what some of their immediate concerns were when using their devises. These consisted of, “How do I use Siri?” “Why won’t my phone power off and on?” How do you use Safari and Face Time?” All great questions which they thoroughly explained while also including education on many other options their phones offered. It was a very beneficial class, and we look forward to continuing work with AARP volunteers so that they can come in and work one-on-one in small groups to offer even more in-depth training! Technology is the wave of the future and “Tech at the Beach” is just one way Brightmore is keeping their residents “Up to Date!”
