Keeping Active with Brightmore of Wilmington

September 30, 2016

Active Aging week was September 26th through October 1st at Brightmore of Wilmington retirement living community. The residents at Brightmore had a fun and active week planned for them! We had a fantastic speaker, Dr. Mark Williams who talked about the five secrets of aging well. Personal one on one fitness and pool tours were offered to the residents, which many took advantage of the time with Madeline and learning how to use the pool, what to wear, and the types of classes offered. Madeline the wellness director spoke on the food pyramid, and “healthy eating after age 50.” This was aimed towards how to make sure that we are eating the correct portion of foods for our ages, and making sure that the foods that we are eating; are the best foods for our bodies. We had a one-mile water walk around Brightmore’s pool, with a half way mark enjoying mimosas and strawberries by the jets, and don’t forget the 74 rubber ducks that kept the marker for us each lap! Ending the week was the highly anticipated Night Yoga that was given by Fran Tabor, one of Brightmore’s yoga and aquatic teachers. The residents loved the 7:30pm Night relaxation yoga, followed by sleepy time tea, and a take away bag of aroma therapy lotion and aches and pains bath beads. Thank you to all the residents who participated this week and got active. Each resident who tried a new class, or came to the personal tours given by Madeline, was entered into a prize drawing of “Active aging prizes” 5 winners were drawn. This really encouraged the residents to get active, have fun, try something new, and learn along the way.
