Do you want to make an impact, join a dynamic team, honor life, family and community? Donna Keugal, Volunteer Coordinator with Liberty Hospice invited Brightmore residents to come learn about “Volunteer Opportunities” right here on their very own campus. Along with Donna, she brought with her current Hospice Volunteers and a CNA who work directly with the patients. It was an informal session which allowed the residents to ask any questions they may have about volunteering. Donna provided the immediate information they needed to know about training, which they can do on the computer online or one-on-one with her; the privacy laws and only being able to speak openly to the Hospice Team that includes the Volunteer Coordinator, CAN, Social Worker, and Chaplain; and what being a volunteer means…having a “bedside-presence”, a listening ear, providing support by playing music, reading books, bible studies, strolling around, singing hymns, and most importantly “being a companion.” The volunteers were able to answer lots of the specific questions, tell meaningful stories and give evidence why giving 1 or 2 hours of your week can and will enhance not only the patient’s life but the volunteers too!
