“Women’s Voices through History” Vocal Recital with Maria Beery
Maria Beery, Grand-daughter of Brightmore Resident, Martha Beery, provided a vocal performance this weekend that was a true delight! Maria Beery, professional Soprano and Dr. Elizabeth Loparits, Collaborative Pianist and faculty member of UNCW, put on an hour and half recital that they will also be performing at the end of the month at Beckwith Hall at UNCW. Maria Beery studied voice at Temple University and the University of South Carolina. Maria has performed in several operas such Mozart’s, The Impresario; a comedic opera, “Four Singers Walk into a Bar;” and “Amahl and the Nights Visitors and Carmen” with Wilmington Opera. This afternoon Maria performed a history of songs by some of her favorite female composers, mostly in French. However, she ended in American as she sang an operatic piece from one of her favorite books, “Cold Mountain” with a guest flutist, and another opera from “Henry the 8th.” Maria was accompanied by Elizabeth Loparits who received her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Greensboro. She has given recitals in Hungary, Costa Rica and the United States. The professionalism and passion that each performer showed gave you goosebumps throughout the performance. We were blessed to have this talent in a family that resides at Brightmore to reap the benefits of this beautifully amazing concert!
