Health Benefits of “Every Day Essential Oils”

November 8, 2019

Brightmore University started our second semester with a very popular new way of aging healthily and naturally that we have been reading about in not only health articles, but also in senior living magazines – “Every Day Essential Oils”. Sara Godfrey, Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist, Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant and Essential Oils Educator, joined us to discuss how to live a more natural lifestyle and reduce your toxic load by using natural remedies.

Essential oils are the aromatic compounds found in plants. Using essential oils for health reasons actually brings us back to our roots when there were no medications, and doctors had to use plants, trees, and the land to heal people who were sick and in pain. It is not a newly discovered way of thinking, but one we have to bring back to live a healthier, chemical-free life.

We discovered how many chemicals are being used in our daily lives – in your home and on your body: such as home cleaners, air fresheners, perfume, make-up, sunscreen, deodorant, etc. Sara educated us on how to use essential oils and plant based solutions safely to live your best life and feel good about the products we are using. For example, lavender is a natural antihistamine. It is calming, helps with sleeping and relaxation. Citrus oiIs such as lemon, lime, and grapefruit are the “energizing and uplifting” oils; Melaleuca (Tee Tree Oil) helps with skin conditions. Peppermint helps with pain, headaches and digestion issues; and Frankincense, known as “the King of Oils” helps with metabolism, brain health, pain relief, memory, wrinkles, age spots, as well as being an anti-inflammatory. So, as you can see, there is an essential oil for just about anything!

We learned so much we hope to have Sara back in our next Brightmore University series to learn more and make some of our own healthy lotions to take home!
