Creativity in Cooking: Korean BBQ
Brightmore ended the May University Series with “Battle of the Cues Goes Global”: A Korean BBQ Beef Demonstration & Tasting presented by three generations of a food-loving family. LA Times recently wrote “The Best BBQ in the World is Korean BBQ”, but what about North Carolina’s claim to fame? Residents were anxious to learn how to prepare Korean Bar-B-Cue and taste-test it to see if the LA Times was correct…AND it was delicious! Three generations, Chris Watkins, retired chef, Yuki and Ha, who have both been on CGN-TV Food Network and have traveled around the world, all gave us their takes on not only Korean BBQ, but some of their favorite dishes to cook. A few secrets on the common ingredients used in most Korean dishes and the ingredients in the special marinade for the #1 Korean BBQ were told, but you had to be there to know what we know now! It was such an interesting demo and a wonderful opportunity for Brightmore to learn about another culture. Several of our Veteran military here at Brightmore spent time in Korea and were able to share some stories of the food and people they met. Ha also shared the history behind her ceremonial dress she was wearing and shared her love and talent of playing the piano for us at the end of the program.
