Brightmore celebrates Mother’s Day

May 6, 2016

“A Woman Is Like A Tea Bag, You Never Know How Strong She Is Until You Put Her In Hot Water”-Eleanor Roosevelt The Mothers of Brightmore enjoyed a beautiful afternoon tea Eleanor Roosevelt style on Wednesday, May 4th, with PG Tipp’s English Tea, scones with jam and Devonshire cream and delicious desserts made right out of Eleanor’s very own cook book! Afternoon tea was a tradition the Roosevelts enjoyed during the many years they spent on Campobello Island. Eleanor always shared tea with friends who visited her home, Val-Kill, near Hyde Park, N.Y. “Tea with Eleanor” was also popular when she served as the first U.S. representative to the United Nations. Stephanna Tewey, Board Member of our Coastal Chapter of the United Nations Association U.S.A. in Wilmington, N.C. provided an enlightening program on Eleanor Roosevelt called, “Close to Home,” providing little known facts about Eleanor Roosevelt and sharing some of Eleanor’s most famous quotes. Eleanor Roosevelt was such a “strong and persistent” woman who never let anyone bring her down, which fully describes the efforts “mothers” provide for their families! Eleanor was and still is a wonderful role-model for women of all ages!mother's day (4) mother's day (2) mother's day (1)
