Abracadabra! Using Magic as Therapy

Therapeutic Magic went over so well last month, the residents requested to have it again!  They were presented six different tricks by Madeline’s Recreation Therapy intern Madison Kolotello, which included the “Easiest Card Trick”, “Paper Clip Connection,” ”Spelling Bee,” “Cut the Deck”, “4’s the key” and “Ring a Long.” All of these magic tricks incorporated the use of fine motor and cognitive skills.  These tricks also allowed the residents to practice mental math, counting, spelling, manipulating small objects, and preparing to present these tricks to others. At the end of this session, the residents selected their favorite magic trick out of the six that they learned and performed it for the group.
