Brightmore’s Wellness Director Madeline Woodard, LRT/CTRS, went in January 2018 to get certified to bring a new program to the building: “Ageless Grace.” Ageless Grace is a cutting-edge brain fitness program based on neuroplasticity that activates all 5 functions of the brain – analytical, strategic, kinesthetic learning, memory/recall, creativity and imagination – and simultaneously addresses all 21 physical skills needed for lifelong optimal function. Created by Denise Medved, the program consists of 21 simple exercise tools designed for all ages and abilities. These exercises, based on everyday movements that are natural and organic, focus on the healthy longevity of the body and mind. The 21 tools have creative, imaginative names, so they are easy to remember. They are also simple to do at home. The movements are designed to be performed seated in a chair, yet they can be done on a bed, standing near or behind a chair, down on the floor, or standing. Almost anyone can do them, regardless of most physical conditions. To read more about this, visit www.agelessgrace.com.
The residents at Brightmore are loving “Ageless Grace” which is being offered to them on Thursdays at 3:30. Each week it is different, with different music, new movements, and different ways to stimulate their brains. Madeline enjoys teaching this class and watching all the smiles, laughs, and joy that it brings to each resident that attends it. “This is my favorite fitness class to teach each week. It is reaching them mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. What more could you ask for when you attend a fitness class!? Watching their smiles, laughs, and their brains work, is exactly why I wanted to go learn more about the Ageless Grace Program and to get certified, and bring it back to Brightmore to teach it.” This class is not only for our residents, as we have one dedicated staff member that comes week to week to join us. Madeline always encourages residents and staff to come check out and participate in Ageless Grace, if they have not. It is unlike any fitness class you have ever done!
